Real time ultrasound is a combination of still pictures in rapid succession. It is used to show movement such as fetal heartbeat as well as the number of fetuses and the position in the womb.
In gynecology, ultrasound is used to examine pelvic organs, and in mammography to examine breasts. Ultrasound is a painless way to identify the size, shape and consistency of a pelvic or breast mass, and to determine whether a lump is filled with fluid or is solid.
