Cardiac Stress Testing (Nuclear Imaging)

Nuclear Imaging is a common procedure administered to millions of persons every year. It is a very safe and useful test that helps physicians determine whether a patient has CAD (Coronary Artery Disease) or not.

Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) is a narrowing of the blood vessels that supply blood and oxygen to the heart. The narrowing is usually caused by fatty deposits inside the coronary arteries that supply the heart with blood. Such narrowing
can restrict the heart from functioning efficiently and can cause chest pain which could lead to serious problems such as heart attack or death.

Nuclear Myocardial Profusion Imaging (MPI) lets the Cardiologist monitor blood flow to the heart.

  • Nuclear refers to a tracer that is injected into the blood stream.
This tracer optimizes a small amount of radiation similar to x-ray.
  • Myocardial refers to the heart muscle
  • Perfusion refers to passage of blood through the circulatory system.
  • Imaging refers to the computer generated pictures taken during the test by a special camera.

The small amount of radiation used for the MPI test is quickly eliminated by the body through natural means and poses no health threat. All studies are interpreted by Board Certified Cardiologists.
